This paper resumes on one hand the role of the conservative women in Chile during the last period of Salvador Allende’s Government, and on the other hand the Military Policies towards the women during the Pinochet’s Regime. In order to obtain the support of the women of Chile, the Dictatorship made a special effort using different ways, and with the aim of supporting this idea this article includes a document where we can see how the militaries had a specific speech for the women in the beginning of their rule.

The subject of this article is the creation of a State owned Publishg House under the Chilean Popular Unity (1970-1973), and its main goal which was the democratization of access to written culture. In the first part it refers to the origins of the project, the propositions which preceded and influenced it’s birth. Then it analyses the ambiguities of it’s juridical status, between a private and public enterprise, and the human and technical factors which contributed to it’s development. In the last place it studies the book collections which were proposed to the public and it intends to estimate it’s “success” through an evaluation of it’s sales in relation with the number of book that were published. It is interesting to quote that because of the lack of documents issued directly from the Publishing House, it is difficult to assess the work that was done and it’s real impact on the Chilean readers.

El artículo analiza la validez conceptual y la pertinencia histórica de la expresión “modelo económico chileno” divulgada por las grandes instituciones financieras internacionales a partir de finales de los años 1970 y aceptada por gran parte de los historiadores que trabajan sobre la historia económica chilena de las últimas cuatro décadas. Partiendo de la idea que no existe en los años 1950-1970 un “modelo económico de Chicago” como “representación matemática de la sociedad”, el artículo muestra que la teoría neoliberal de Chicago logra imponerse en Chile dentro de la intelectualidad de derecha gracias a la Facultad de economía de la Universidad católica de Chile y al periódico El Mercurio. La ejemplaridad y la continuidad en la aplicación de la teoría neoliberal de Chicago durante la dictadura militar del general Pinochet permiten hablar de un “modelo económico chileno”. Sin embargo, el artículo cuestiona la posibilidad de “exportar” la política económica chilena a otros países dado que es inseparable del régimen militar que la aplica. En conclusión, destaca más la singularidad del caso chileno que su universalidad.

This article relates the Actual History of the Mapuche People with the different political processes that have taken place in Chile from 1970 until the present time, passing through the government of Popular Unity, the Pinochet’s Regime and the return of Democracy. The purpose of this paper is to show that the political and social conditions of the Mapuche People were directly connected with what was going on in Chile during those years, not only being part of the general Chilean History but also protagonist and mean actors of the moment.
